Just downloaded it. Seems like there are a few glitchy spots, and I think I can barely see the seam, but otherwise, WOW! Way better than I could've possibly began to do, so I can't really complain. Downloaded just fine, and played okay once i downloaded the codec as well. The only thing i can see Anet being able to improve over this one is maybe variable settings and no seam in the water. Thanks Xenrath, and great job!

I can't run it but I feel it's due to the codex I have installed. I can play xvid, divx, mkv and a bunch more. I use ffdshow to render xvid video (not the xvid codex).
The music is the new intro music when the pvp event launched. I was so glad they flagged DS to not kick in so people with direct song could hear it

LOL DarkZeal - Screensaver's came about ages ago to protect old monitor's from "Ghosting" effect's. What would happen if you left the same image running.. over time the image would imprint itself into the monitor.. thus you'd always have a "ghost" of that image. Thus screensaver's were made - images which moved around the screen which would prevent ghosting. This screensave would work in stopping ghosting as it's constently moving and changing.. thus while it won't reduce power-consumption.. it still stops ghosting (which isn't an issue anymore really..).
Course with modern monitor's this is virtually a null-point for them. Now the screensaver's are setup more for security reason's (ie you leave your work comp on to go to the loo with important stuff up and running.. SS comes up and you need a password to get off the screensaver) or to have pretty images displayed on your monitor while your not using it (ie why there's those aquarium screensaver's and the like).. or as a means of power-saving.
This is a very nice screensaver and I'm actually using it - I find it nice sitting on my couch watching tv to have this screenasver going on my monitor (comp is right near my TV.. hehe). I actually wasn't using a SS before.. if I was going away I'd just turn the monitor off.. heh

http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml
Download the "latest stable binary" at the top there and install that, and when it asks "Decode all supported FourCCs" make sure that is checked. You don't need DivX this way, and I've not noticed any difference in quality.

I tried this and it didnt work for me. Any suggestions?

Did you download the old (DivX) version? If so maybe try the updated link.. I removed all references to the old one and replaced it with a Xvid only one.

Nope didn't work. I downloaded the one from the link off GWG yesterday and that one didn't work. I tried the link you gave me and that didn't work either.

Ok I think I know what's wrong. Ooops! Upon closer inspection it looks like Inde has mirrored the old (problematic) DivX version, not the new Xvid version... I'll email Inde to mirror the correct version
If your screensaver settings don't look like this, you have the old version which should have been deleted
The first page link (filefront) is the correct version which you should have

Hmm not sure what could be the problem for you Barinthus, removing the old version and using this new version (and the Xvid codec) should have fixed it; seems to be working for most.
One thing you could try - in the Settings/Sound/Playlist section add an MP3 or two, click ok etc. then try previewing the screensaver. If you have a slow computer it might take a moment or two to start up. If you can hear music, but after a while still no video, then that would seem to imply maybe some kind of driver/codec clash or something with your particular setup i.e. the screensaver is running (since it's playing the music you specificed, but for some reason you're not seeing video)
Some things to try in that case
- Uninstall Xvid codec
- Uninstall DivX (if you have it)
- Remove any "codec pack" you might have installed, e.g. Nimo, K-Lite etc. as well as any additional stuff they installed e.g. filters, vobwhateveritis.
- Try upgrading your video drivers (ATI or nVidia I presume, remove old version first)
- Reboot, then install the Xvid codec alone (check "decode all fourcc types" box when installing it)
- See if that helps any
That's pretty much regular procedure for trying to nail down video problems with movies and such, try to reduce to absolute minimum and slowly add stuff back - it's usually down to some clash somewhere Hope that helps, am not sure what else could be a problem without being able to look through your system in depth

I know it has been a while - I got fed up and gave up. Then recently I had to reload Xvid codec for something else and then on a hunch I decided to reload the screensaver. Lo, and behold! it works.
Strange since I did uninstall and reinstall it in the first place. Perhaps it didn't work because I didn't reboot the computer back then?
Regardless, it's nice to see the screensaver on my computer now
